Who doesn’t love some calmness after a long day? We all do. That’s why I love my own DIY pillow spray for the dreamiest sleep.
And I will also show you multiple ways to use it so you can make it once and use it for multiple purposes.
I started making my own pillow sprays a while ago because I didn’t want anything artificial or overpowering near my face while I slept. It could cause me a headache if I am not cautious about the products.
Why Should You Make This DIY Pillow Spray?
A few years ago when I was in my early 20s, I started watching youtube videos which were all about healthy choices and making your own DIY products and even though I was the one who was not into making my own products because first of all I was lazy and never really felt the importance.
But I loved the idea to make my own DIY products.
As I have tried many products over the years, I am now seeing how hard it is to find products that are naturally made (or at least not have harsh products), and are budget friendly.
The most commercial ones have chemicals like Synthetic Fragrances. Phthalates (to help increase product’s shelf life), Parabens, Propylene Glycol and many others. While not all the chemicals are bad, if you want, you can read the list of ingredients to avoid in skincare here.
1) It’s your own way to get creative and make something that you know you will use and like.
2) You get to become your own kind of creative and have control over the ingredients you use (and you can change them if you feel like the next time).
3) No toxicity and more sustainable (if you care about it).
4) You will thank yourself every time you use them. (It’s a great feeling).
DIY Pillow Spray for the Dreamiest Sleep Ingredients!

Now you have the reason to make your own diy pillow spray, let’s see what ingredients you need to make this.
1) water- Distilled water is the best option because it is purified through a process of boiling and condensation that removes impurities, minerals, and bacteria. This is to make sure that your pillow spray is free from any contaminants or chemicals that could affect the quality of the spray, especially when it will be in close contact with your skin.
2) Glycerin– Glycerin is included in this recipe as a humectant, which means it helps retain moisture. In a pillow spray, glycerin helps the formula stay hydrated on your pillow or sheets without drying out quickly. It also helps the essential oils blend more effectively with the water, since essential oils don’t naturally mix with water.
3) Lavender Essential oil, Rose Essential Oil and Jasmine Essential Oil (I have tried to use one essential oil at a time, if you want you can use multiple essential oils, i prefer to keep them separated and use differently depending on my mood and I believe it’s more beginner friendly too.
We have talked about the ingredients, now let’s see how you can make them.
1) Classic Lavender
If you struggle with restful sleep. The soft floral scent of lavender can ease tension and create a relaxing atmosphere, making it ideal for a pre-sleep ritual.
- Instructions: 1) 50 ml water.
- 1/2 tsp glycerin
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- Take water, essential oils and glycerin to a spray bottle and shake.
- Shake until the liquids are blended and it’s now ready to use.

2) Floral Calm
It is good for Emotional balance, relaxation, nurturing, and calming.
- 50ml water
- 1/2 tsp glycerin
- 3 drops lavender EO
- 2 drops rose EO
Gently shake and spray on linens or pillow.

3) Sweet Dreams
It is great for Uplifting mood, promotes relaxation, and soothing for the skin.
- 50ml water
- 1/2 tsp glycerin

This recipe require minimal ingredients. Lavender provides a more straightforward, calming scent, while rose and jasmine together create a more complex, emotionally soothing blend. You can experiment with either based on what you’re in the mood for!

FAQs
Q: Can I use tap water instead of distilled water?
A: It’s best to use distilled water to avoid bacteria, mineral buildup, and strange odors. Tap water can shorten the shelf life of your spray or irritate sensitive skin.
Q: What does glycerin do in this recipe?
A: Glycerin helps the essential oils mix better with water and makes the scent last longer on your pillow. It also keeps the formula lightly hydrating and gentle on fabrics.
Q: Will these stain my pillows or sheets?
A: No—these sprays are very light, and the oils are diluted enough that they won’t stain. Still, do a quick patch test if your bedding is made of delicate fabric.
Q: What if I don’t like floral scents?
A: Stick with the Classic Lavender or experiment with grounding oils like cedarwood or sandalwood. You can customize your own blend!
